Up to Mischief with Horrid Henry!
Let Horrid Henry and Perfect Peter be your guides as you come face to face with some of literature's best-loved naughty characters in this naughty new exhibition. Look for adventure with Peter Rabbit, get into trouble with Clarice Bean or break all the rules with Just William and Pippi Longstocking!
Stories about naughty characters have been told for centuries and this interactive exhibition explores why they have so much appeal. Just make sure you're on your best behaviour or you might even get sent to the naughty children's room!

From Toad Hall to Pooh Corner
Amble down to Seven Stories this summer and you’ll be sure to stumble across some old friends and familiar faces. From Badger, Mole and Ratty to Eeyore, Piglet and Pooh visitors can waste the day away in the country, when in fact they’re just outside the heart of Newcastle.
Venture through the wild wood to Badger’s Kitchen or ride in Toad’s car. Visit Pooh Corner, search for Heffalumps and Woozles, and admire original manuscripts and illustrations. A celebration of the Centenary edition of The Wind in the Willows, this exhibition provides the perfect setting for families of all ages to make their own adventure!

Summer Story Party
Drop-in to our Summer Story Parties for themed stories, rhymes, games and drawing, especially for our younger visitors. Children can embark on their own adventure, exploring the pleasure of storytelling in a relaxed environment. There will be ideas and tips for sharing stories and linked activities to do at home with your children.
For children aged 18 months to 5 years, each session is flexible, depending on audience, and will last no more than an hour.
Mondays and Wednesdays from 21 July at 10.15am, excluding bank holidays.

Story Trail
Saturday 12 July – Sunday 31 August
Create your own story as you journey up and down the seven floors at Seven Stories, building up characters, landscapes and content as you go. Be inspired by boats and the riverside as your finish your trail out on the Ouseburn River – but how will you get there.

Boat Sculpture
Monday 21 – Sunday 31 August
Bring the Seven Stories willow boat sculpture to life by adding your own piece of work. From mast to fag pole, decking to side panel, the whole family can enjoy adding their own piece of creativity to this magical boat.

Cultural Olympiad Launch Day-‘Stories of the Gods’
Hear legends of power, heroism and athleticism in a fantastic storytelling session with Pascale Konyn to celebrate the launch of the Cultural Olympiad. Be inspired by tales of triumph you hear to create your own silk painting using ancient methods. The Seven Stories archive team will also be on hand with a chance to see highlights from our very special collection of original manuscripts, illustrations and books.

Winged Tales of the North – David Almond exhibition launch
To celebrate a decade of the award-winning children’s book Skellig (1998) by North East author David Almond, Seven Stories have created an exciting exhibition to showcase David’s impressive body of work. From the scribbling of the writer at work to the production of an award winning novel, see how David draws inspiration from his North East roots to create tales of extraordinary experiences. Open in the Artist’s Attic for one month only.

David Almond - A Great North Run Cultural Event

An exciting opportunity to meet one of the UK’s bestselling children’s authors, celebrating the publication of his short story Harry Miller’s Run, part of the BUPA Great North Run Cultural Programme. David will read from his new story and answer questions on his work surrounded by the brand new touring exhibition Winged Tales of the North.

Spooks and Scares week at Seven Stories
Will you be in for a trick or a treat during October half term at Seven Stories? Are you brave enough to find out? Uncover the spooky story corner in the Artist’s Attic where you can read your favourite grim or ghoulish story surrounded by cobwebs, bats and all manner of creepy creatures! Venture down to the Creation Station to make and create your own nasties, and to really feel at home, why not come dressed as your favourite monster, ghoul or creature!

Drama Workshop: Become your Favourite Monster!
Step into the character of your favourite monster and learn new ways to bring storybooks to life! Why not dress up as your favourite character to really set the mood.

Monday 27th October
Dr Who Monsters and Masks in the Attic
Ray Phillips, make-up and mask designer for Dr Who will take up residence in the Artist’s Attic for the day working on new masks and moulds. Ask Ray questions as he works try masks on and take photos with some of his best loved creatures from the TV series. Young people can also make and create their own Dr Who monster downstairs in the Creation Station.
All day in the Attic and Creation Station, no booking required.
Tuesday 28th October
Animation Workshop: Make your own Monster Movie, 8+ only
Learn the basic technique of stop-motion animation using plasticine to create monsters and ghouls. This 2 hour workshop will involve creating models or using ready made ones. You will work in pairs to bring your models to life by moving them bit by bit, getting them to act out a story and taking a picture after every move. When you join these pictures together and play them back, the models appear to move on their own. This animation will then be saved onto DVD for collection at a later stage.

Halloween Special with Tommy Donbavand
Join Seven Stories’ writer in residence Tommy Donbavand as we host a series of Halloween events to celebrate the publication of the first four books in his Scream Street series.
1pm – 2pm Creative Writing Workshop
Hear from Tommy how to get ideas, put them on paper and begin to write your first book in this fantastic opportunity for children to work with a published author.
2.30 – 3.45pm Storytelling Session
Tommy will read from his new Scream Street series and the very special, very spooky story he has written for Seven Stories, Ghostwriter. Stick around afterwards for what is bound to be a hilarious and entertaining Questions and Answers session.
